Seminar looking to keep couples happy

Published February 2, 2007

LOGANVILLE — Anyone concerned about the direction their marriage might be taking or those just looking to keep their marriage healthy will have the opportunity to sign up for a national marriage conference courtesy of the Loganville Community Ministry Village at the First Baptist Church of Loganville.

The Ministry Village is hosting the conference, which features Ted Cunningham and Dr. Robert Paul, who co-authored “The DNA of Relationships for Couples” with Gary Smalley. The two-day conference, scheduled for Feb. 9-10, transcends all denominational boundaries and promises to give couples of all ages and stages of marriage practical tools for their relationships.

Paul and Cunningham will communicate key principles based on their more than seven years of working with couples through an intensive marriage counseling program at the National Institute of Marriage in Branson, Miss.

The conference is designed to teach couples how to identify their “buttons” and then how to create the ideal environment for the marriage to flourish and grow by “making it the safest place on earth.” In addition, four key skills are taught to help take any marriage from good to great. These skills are personal responsibility, caring for self, caring for your mate and caring for your marriage.

Chet Fowler, counselor at the Loganville Community Ministry Village, was responsible for bringing the opportunity to attend this seminar to area residents and is hoping to make it an annual event.

“As a counselor I see how many marriages in the area are struggling and I wanted to give them the opportunity to get the help they need,” Fowler said.

The seminar will be held in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Loganville, which can accomodate 580 people.

“We already have about 300 people signed up so we are asking anyone who is interested to get their name in as soon as possible,” Fowler said.

The cost for the seminar is $29 per person or $58 per couple. Fowler said although it obviously benefits both parties to a marriage to attend, they did have cases where just one of the partners could attend and even that would be beneficial.

Fowler said The DNA of Relationships for Couples Conference is a fresh, fun and honest way of looking at marriage, using engaging biblical parallels and intriguing real-life examples that help couples make their marriage journey a great one.
