BREAKING NEWS: Murder charged in 2008 killing
Published February 7, 2010
Gwinnett police made an arrest Friday in the 2008 killing of a Snellville woman.
Ronald Edward Smith, 51, was arrested Friday night. He is charged with felony murder in connection with the death of Genai Coleman, who was found shot in a Duluth-area parking lot more than a year ago.
Coleman was killed on July 18, 2008, while waiting in her car for her daughter. An officer responded to a shooting call, and Coleman later died at Gwinnett Medical Center.
Officer Brian Kelly, public information officer for Gwinnett police, said in a news release Friday that a “long-term” investigation connected Smith to Coleman's death.
Kelly said forensic evidence found in and around the crime scene was used in the probe.
Police arrested Smith in Lawrenceville, but he is “essentially homeless.”
Kelly said the motive for Smith's slaying is under investigation, but it doesn't appear Smith knew Coleman.
Smith was being held in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond Sunday.
