Mrs. Montine Walton Mrs. Montine Walton of Social Circle died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Walton Regional Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 24, 1924 in Monroe to the late Jessie and Etta Davis Kirk. Mrs. Walton was of the Methodist faith a forner member of Newborn United Methodist Church. Mrs. Walton is survived by: daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Paul Schlageter, Social Circle; grandchildren, Jennifer Foskey, Tonja Tart , Stacey Schlageter and Jamie Schlageter; great grandchildren, Landon Ward, Colin Ward and Blair Power; nieces, nephews, other family and close friends. She is preceded in death by husband, Charlie W. Walton. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 8, at Chapel of Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Sorrells officiating. John Tillman Hanks John Tillman Hanks, age 90, of Loganville passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Mr. Hanks was a WWII Army Veteran, and a member of the American Legion. He retired from Kraft Foods as a mechanical engineer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria J. Hanks; children, John Curtis and Cindy Hanks, Savannah; Mark Alan and Telia Hanks, Loganville; Lisa Ann and Ronny Mitchell, Loganville; brother, Joe Hanks, Birmingham, AL., grandchildren, Ryan Curtis Hanks, Kyle Carson Hanks, John Tyler Mitchell. Mrs. Jessie Irene Brooks Mrs. Jessie Irene Brooks, age 96 of Loganville, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, M. D. "Jeff" Brooks. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Gene Matthews, Loganville, Dorothy and Joel Garrett, Hawkinsville; sevengrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Loganville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at Scot Ward's Harry White Chapel with Dr. Don Richards and the Rev. James Dispain officiating; interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge. Virgil R. “Buster” Sorrell
Virgil R. “Buster” Sorrell Virgil R. “Buster” Sorrell, age 65 of Monroe, formerly of Decatur, entered into rest on Feb. 26, 2010. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Jean M. Sorrell of Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Terina Sorrell of Lawrenceville, Brett Sorrell of Tucker, Sammy and Kerri Sorrell of Social Circle, and Josh and Brittany Sorrell of Winder; grandsons, Brody Sorrell, Jacob Sorrell, and Lane Sorrell; step-grandchildren, Josh, Taylor, and Madison Assouad; mother, Charlotte Sorrell of Atlanta; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Frances Sorrell of Monroe; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Buster was born in Atlanta on October 3, 1944 to Charlotte Sorrell and the late Sam Sorrell. He was a 1962 graduate of North Druid Hills High School. He was a devoted soccer coach for 20+ years in Snellville. Buster loved spending time outdoors with his boys. Hunting and fishing were some of their favorites. He was a body shop director of numerous dealerships in the metro area from 1965-2008. He was a devoted member of Free Chapel Church in Gainesville, and he loved spending time with his grandkids.

Betty Stepp Glover Betty Glover, 78, entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010. Mrs. Glover was born on Feb. 25, 1931 in Jefferson, Georgia. She was a retired legal secretary and of the Protestant Faith. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin G. Couch, son, Kevin S. Glover, granddaughter, Amber Garland, parents, Eston C. Stepp and Overton Wilson Stepp, and sisters, Evelyn Meadows and Reta York. Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Michele G. Nowling, Warner Robins; son, Keith W. Glover, Warner Robins; grandsons, Cole Glover, Cody Glover, Warner Robins, Carl Leary, Lawrenceville, and Clay Garland, III, Auburn; sisters, Carol Casper, Monroe, and Barbara “Bob” Burnette, Campton; multiple nephews, nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Franklin “Frank” Putman
Franklin “Frank” Putman Frank was born in 1922 in Brooks, Ga to Buck and Odessa Putman. One of eight siblings, he joined the Army at age 17, lying about his age so he could join the fight in Europe. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was decorated for his service. After leaving the military, Frank married Betty Boss. Together they lived in Loganville and had two children, Hynes and Denise. In 1960 Frank and Betty separated and Frank moved to Daytona Beach Fl. Working in resorts and the real estate market in Daytona, he met and married Judy Tipmore and with her he had a son, Allen. Frank had a close personal relationship with his savior, Jesus Christ. He spent his days following Jesus’ guidance. He loved everyone he met and received the same back from the world. After retirement, Frank could be found at the dog track or in the pool halls of Daytona. He loved following the dogs at the track and in the pool halls he taught many a youngster not to underestimate the ability of an 87 year old man.

Hazel Love Moore Hazel Love Moore, age 104 passed away, Sunday Feb. 21, 2010. Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at Loganville Christian Church with the Rev. Clay Manley officiating. Ms. Moore was a Public Special Education teacher for 25 yrs in Houston, TX. She enjoyed playing the piano at Southern Plantation. Her secret to a long life was exercising and studying nutrition and health. Kathryn Edmondson Bloodworth Kathryn Edmondson Bloodworth, age 79 of Social Circle, died on Feb. 19, 2010. She was born in Morgan County on Nov. 2, 1930 to the late Corrie Sullivan and the late Annie Durden Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her husbands, the late Eddie Edmondson and the late George Bloodworth. Surviving are, daughter and son-in-law: Marilyn and Wendell Pitts of Social Circle; son, Tony Edmondson of Winder; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and John Hogan of Social Circle, Joyce and Marlin Knight of Social Circle; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Monday Feb. 22nd at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Hammonds and the Rev. W.C. Tribble officiating. Justin E. John Justin E. John, age 22, of Monroe, GA, died Feb. 19, 2010. He is survived by: parents, Stephen and Jane John; brother, Andrew John; sister, Megan John all of Monroe; maternal grandmother, Dianne Post of Lawrenceville; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Sue John of Monroe; aunts and uncles, Rocky and Bev Post of Loganville, Rusty and Kim Post of Birmingham, Tim and Sarah Johnson of Snellville, Lee and Mary Taylor of Princeville, Il; 25 cousins and his momma and diddy (Monika and Geoffrey Parrish). Justin received his high school diploma in 2007 and loved playing basketball and baseball. He was an assistant coach for the Greater Gwinnett Barons Basketball team and invested much of his life in the youth department at Hebron Baptist Church. Justin loved life and lived it to the fullest. He especially loved his time at the Clark Hill lake, four-wheeling, guns and his Dodge Ram truck. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at Hebron Baptist Church with the interment to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 9 P. M. at Hebron Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jessie Merl Sapp Mrs. Jessie Merl Sapp, 79 of Monroe passed away Feb. 18, 2010. Born in Hueytown, AL. to the late Jesse Robert Moore and the late Gertrude Gay Moore, Mrs. Sapp was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Monroe, she was a homemaker and she loved gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Jack Frederick Sapp. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Yvonne Sapp of Lawrenceville, Fred and Kim Sapp of Decatur, AL., daughter and son-in-law, Yonette and Harold Rooker of Monroe; brother, Rayburn Moore of Muscle Shoals, Al.; sister, Voncile Bowling of Florence, AL.; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday Feb. 19 at Faith Baptist Church in Monroe, with the Rev. Slede Alday officiating, a second funeral was held on Saturday Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, AL. with the Rev. Don Gentry and the Rev. Brad Roath officiating. Jack Randolph Shore Jack Randolph Shore, 80, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. Born April 11, 1929 in Walton County, he was a son of the late Willard Charleston and Bertie Magdalene Brown Shore. Mr. Shore retired from General Motors after forty years and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He moved to Athens from Monroe thirty-one years ago and was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST, with Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Shore; four children, Rebecca Broach of Bostwick, Kathie Walden, Patricia Head, both of Monroe and Deborah Malcom of Madison, GA; stepdaughter, Sandra J. Mattie Lou Edmonds
Mattie Lou Edmonds Mattie Lou Edmonds, age 88, of Monroe died Friday Feb. 5, 2010. She was born on Sept. 18, 1921 in Millen, Georgia to the late Henry Harrison Ollif and the late Mattie Sara Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Thomas Jefferson Edmonds and sister, the late Ruby O. Smith. She graduated Booklet High School in 1938 and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1942 with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She also graduated from the University of Georgia with a Masters of Education. Mrs. Edmonds taught Home Economics at Statesboro High from 1942-1944. In Sept. of 1947, she began teaching in Walton County and became principle of three schools in Monroe. Mrs. Edmonds retired from Monroe Primary in 1978. She joined Leefield Baptist Church when she was a teenager. After she moved to Monroe, she joined the First Baptist Church in Monroe in the mid 1940’s. She was also president of the WMS for several years and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Walton Co. Retired Teachers Association (GRE
